FAQ'S on our Youth Ministry Strategy

Section 1 - Sunday Morning Youth Worship (The Foyer)

1. Why are we providing separate worship services on Sunday Mornings for different age groups?

We believe in creating environments where all ages can learn more effectively. By separating them on Sunday Mornings we can focus our teaching more strategically and allow for Parents to follow up on what they have learned at home. We want to strongly encourage, as well as, give resources for Parents to be the spiritual leaders of the home. We feel that by separating the students in a different environment they will open up more and walk away with feeling like God cares about them specifically not just their parents.

2. What do I do if I want my family to go to the same worship service?

There are a couple of options for you. 1) You can have your family go to the Adult worship Service where some families may choose to have their kids sit with them. 2) You may want to go to the worship service 1 hour and let your student go the other hour. During the hour that they go to the Youth Option you can serve in one of our key areas for that morning (Kingdom Quest, Promiseland, Café Ministry, Greeting Team) or you can come serve in the youth ministry and go to the youth worship.

3. I have kids in both HS & MS, what do I do on Sunday Mornings?

First, we are creating 2 separate environments for students 6th-12th grade b/c we understand the learning style of a Middle School student is different than one of a High School Student. You can have your students and you serve in an area of ministry the other hour that they are not in the worship service. There are needs on the greeting team, café ministry, Promiseland (K-5th), Noahs Landing (preschool), our High School and Middle School ministry. If this is not an option for you then you can always, drop off or pick up before or after they MS or HS service. Also, you can share transportation with another family and have a friend bring the middle school student early or have a ride home for your high school student.

4. What will the Sunday Morning Youth Options Look like?

MS Option: Will begin at 10am in the Youth Center.
HS Option: Will begin at 11:30 am in the Youth Center.

Students can arrive 10 minutes early for games, donuts and juice. We will gather students together for a few small upfront games, skits, dramas or other short activities. We will move to a time of worship, testimony, offering (we want to have an opportunity to teach our students about the importance of giving), and then the Age Appropriate Message will be given.

Section 2 - 1 x Month Sunday Night event The Bridge

5. Who will Come to this event?

This is for High School students. We will also love for our Parents to come and serve that night.

6. What will the Sunday Night Event Look Like?

We will have a time of food ($3 for food), games with teams, small groups for connecting with each other, Large Group teaching time designed around some key themes that are relevant to students, and our Full Youth Worship Band will play.

7. Why will you only do it 1x a month?

There are several reason for only doing it 1 x a month. 1) We want to put our energy and effort in making a great experience and environment for our High School students and if we have 1 month each time to prepare we can make it better.  2) We will already be meeting each week on Sunday Mornings for a large group teaching time so to do it every week would mean we would be providing a similar type of environment 2 times in a week and we believe that we are more effective if we put our time, energy and efforts with a more Narrowed Focus. 3) We believe in moving High School Students into home groups and want to give the time 2-3 times a month to meet as a home group.  The Bridge for HS is designed to help connect home groups together and develop relationships with other High School Students that may not be connected yet.

Section 3 - Small Groups (The Kitchen) - ECHO GROUPS

8. When and Where will the small groups meet?

MS Small groups meet on Tuesday Nights at TCC. They will gather together in our Worship Center for intimate worship, introduction to our small groups then head to their small groups for about 30 minutes. Afterward they can go to the Student Center for Games, Snacks and Hang out time. They will have a deeper study of what we learned on Sunday morning and we will challenge them to dive deeper in their walk with God.

HS Small Groups meet during the week at different times.   We have HS home groups on Thursdays, Sat. & Sunday Nights at this time. They will have a deeper study of what we learned on Sunday morning and we will challenge them to dive deeper in their walk with God.  Because our High School Students times are so hectic we have designed our home groups to be availabe at different times.  Please see a Youth Leader or other HS student to find out when and where our Groups meet.

Section 4 - All other Questions

9. Why do we structure our Student Ministry the Way we do?

As we continue to look at our student ministry the most important thing we realize is for us to be as effective as possible in equipping our parents and students to live the way God designed for us. We are in different stages of our walk with God and in different stages of our learning. The way we are currently doing things fit’s in alignment with the rest of our church's philosophy on how we accomplish ministry. We have adopted the philosophy of creating environments that resemble a Foyer, Living Room, and Kitchen. We do this because as we separate the way we learn and grow into different environments we will be more effective in leading people into a deeper walk with God. Each environment is designed with leading people to the next one. We think steps, not programs when we do ministry.

10. Will you be doing any ministry or missions?

Yes, our focus will be to do missions trips each year and to encourage through our small groups connecting with different missions and ministry opportunities.   We have 4 -6 times a year Student Serve Day's.  This is where our students will come to TCC around 10am and we will have a time of worship and devotional before we head out to serve in our community.  We end our time with working around TCC to make it more beautiful and welcoming to our members and guests.  Each student will need to bring a bag lunch and we will have pick-up around 4pm.  Check our website for the next Students Serve day.  We also, have mission trips in the summer to connect to.

11. What other events will the youth ministry be doing?

Our plan will to have 3 different youth Camps/conferences each year, Social Gatherings for purpose of building relationships with people who are not yet connected with our church, Concerts, Leadership Development, and Other activities that we will promote and run through our small group ministry.

12. How can I serve in the Youth Ministry?

We are always looking for more adults who are interested in impacting our students. Our first step is to learn what we are doing and how you can fit in. You will need to come to a gathering for adults who are interested in working with teens to learn our philosophy of ministry, values, and other helpful insights with the student ministry. Just go to tcc.org and click on the ministry you want to help with and sign-up where it says, I want to serve. We will contact you very shortly with more information.

13.  How important is it for my HS or MS student to connect to all areas of the youth ministry?

Our youth ministry is designed with a transformation process in mind.  All parts of what we do work together to produce extraordinary followers of Jesus Christ.  To really see growth and one's relationship with God go deep we encourage our students to connect to our Sunday Morning Foyer, come to our 1x a month Bridge event, get connected to a small group, come to the camps and retreats, and to take time to do individual reflection and study on God's word.
