Transforming Ordinary People into Extraordinary Followers of Christ

Women’s Spring Retreat 2018

Becoming a Woman of Grace

Come and spend the weekend with us as we seek to increasingly become women whose lives are shaped by grace.  We’re going to work our way through the book of Ephesians as we look at our need to embrace grace and live out our new identity defined by grace.  We’ll also look at how grace helps us to walk by faith rather than fear, and how grace helps us to forgive others the way we have been forgiven.  What a joy it will be to be together and relish in the grace God has lavished on us!

Our speaker, Karen Helmer, has been married to her high school sweetheart, Doug, since 1984.  They have two children: Luke, 30 (married to Kayla), and Emily, 28 (married to Kurt).  They  have three grandsons:  William, Matthew, and Max who are the apples of their eyes!  Karen & Doug have been in full-time ministry since 2002.  They served together at Faith Church (Lafayette, Indiana) leading the Young Couples and Young Families groups, counseling together, and Karen lead the Women’s Ministry.  In 2008 they planted Harvest Bible Chapel in Avon, Indiana.  Karen received her Master’s in Biblical Counseling from The Master’s College (Santa Clarita, CA) in 2010.  Her passion is to teach women the Word of God so that they encounter the Living Word, Jesus Christ, and learn to increasingly delight in Him.

Fort Caswell is this year’s retreat location and is tucked away on the eastern tip of Oak Island, surrounded by peaceful beaches and expansive grounds, providing a relaxing setting for a retreat weekend.  Whether through our speaker’s messages, group discussions, chats on the porch or walks on the beach, you will be blessed during this extended time of fellowship, reflection, renewal and worship.

Retreat Package
Our weekend retreat begins on Friday, April 13, with check-in starting at 5pm. The Friday night session starts at 7pm (Note: there is no dinner provided on Friday—grab a bite on the way). We will be staying in the Smith Conference Center on the Fort Caswell grounds, overlooking the ocean.  You and your roommate will share a room with 2 double beds, mini fridge and private bath.  Meals included are breakfast, lunch and dinner on Saturday, breakfast on Sunday as well as snacks and beverages throughout the weekend. All retreat material is included. We’ll check out on Sunday, April 15, at 11am.

Costs & Deadlines for Registration

  • Retreat Fee is $120
  • A $60 non-refundable deposit locks in your registration
  • Accounts must be “paid in full” by Sunday, April 8, to reserve your spot
  • Final day to register is Sunday, April 8* (depending on space availability)

In the past, we’ve had such an overwhelming response to our annual beach retreat, we needed to close registration early* and open a waiting list, so don’t delay.  Invite a friend to join you for a retreat at the beach!  If finances keep you from being able to attend, you may inquire about a scholarship.  For this or any other questions, please email Marie Cunningham.

Weekend Schedule
Throughout the weekend, there will be four messages from our speaker, followed by small group discussions.  You’ll have free time on Saturday afternoon to relax on the porch, do a craft, check out the fort, or join a group heading into town to shop, hanging out on the beach or some other fun activity. When we wrap up Sunday morning, even though you will be checked out of your room, you are welcome to stay on the grounds for the day.

We’d love your help in making this the best retreat ever!
If you enjoy hospitality, organizing group activities, coming up with craft ideas or greeting our women as they arrive, we’d love for you to share your gifts in making this weekend even more special. Our hospitality team plans/tastes/makes/shops for food and arrives early Friday afternoon to set up as well as maintain the spread throughout the weekend. We need organizers for ice-breakers and activities (such as a scavenger hunt, beach volleyball, thrift store shopping…) for our Saturday afternoon free-time. Our craft & chat table is always occupied, so if you have craft ideas, we have a table! And if you’d enjoy welcoming our women and getting them checked-in, our ‘front desk’ has an opening just for you!  We welcome your prayers for this event and invite you to be part of our prayer team.  For more details about these serving opportunities, check the box(es) that interest you on the registration form.
