This Wednesday is also the night that we will be collecting shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child, a ministry of Samaritan’s Purse. This ministry gives you a chance to make a difference in the life of a child by sharing gifts and a gospel message with needy children around the world. Your child should have received a flyer last Wednesday that includes some details, but if it never got to you, please go to How to Pack a Shoebox for Operation Christmas Child. To participate, you fill a shoebox with a gift or gifts targeted to a particular aged boy or girl, as indicated by the label you fill out. You can fill the shoebox with a stuffed animal, gum, toys, a ball, a doll, toothbrush, comb, etc. A mix of toys, hygiene articles and school supplies make great shoeboxes. Please read the flyer or online information for recommendations on the gifts and how to label and wrap the box. A $9 check made out to “Samaritan’s Purse” with “OCC” in the Memo line is also requested as a per shoebox donation for handling and shipping costs, or if you want to track your shoe box, go to Follow Your Box. You’ll see information on printing your label and tracking your shoe box, or you can find a printable label by clicking on this link. Also, if you do not wish to contribute a full box, your child can bring a gift for a combined box. You will need to return it tonight (Nov 8) at Awana.
