Philippians: The Anatomy of Christian Joy – 8.10.25

Paul’s great affection for the Philippian church is evident in the early verses of this letter where he identifies Philippians believers as saints– those who have been set apart by God for his purposes. Because that designation brings with it the responsibility to live holy lives, we should live out of our identity and spiritual calling. Paul also calls us to maintain joy despite our circumstances because our joy is based upon a deep seated trust in God that he will work in and through our circumstances to bring about his purposes in our lives.

Messy Life: The Story of Jacob: Common Struggles of Covenant Living – 6.15.25

Life’s struggles are common to all. In this portion of Jacob’s life he suffers three tragedies in short order: the death of his beloved nanny Deborah, the tragic and unexpected death of his beloved wife Rachel, and finally the death of his father Isaac. Jacob’s dysfunctional family set aside their differences and gave Isaac a proper burial.

Messy Life: The Story of Jacob: Drawing Near to God – 6.8.25

After the terrible massacre at Shechem, Jacob and his family recognize their need to repent before God and walk faithfully with him again. Jacob finally makes good on his vow to return to Bethel. In a beautiful picture of repentance and heartfelt worship, the family puts away their idols, consecrates themselves to God and offers sacrifice.
